ALERT!! American Foul Brood confirmed in Chenango County

The following is from Joan Mahoney, Interim State Apiculturist.

I am writing to inform you that based on a call from a local beekeeper with bee yards in Chenango County, we have identified colonies infected with American Foul Brood. The infection was confirmed by the USDA Beltsville Bee lab. The 5 colonies and infected stored equipment identified with AFB have been abated and our inspector conducted perimeter inspections at neighboring beekeeper’s yards. We are asking your assistance to help notify beekeepers in Chenango County that AFB has been found and to share with them the signs and the symptoms of the disease. I have attached three links that may be helpful to your club members. Please feel free to contact me at 518-457-2087 with questions. Thank you
